Group-IB, a leading cybersecurity company aimed at investigating, preventing, and combating digital crime announces today the appointment of Mauricio Guijarro as its Head of Sales in Latin America (LATAM) and the Caribbean. This appointment echoes the recent statements made by Group-IB’s CEO Dmitry Volkov and underscores the company’s drive to expand further into the LATAM and North American markets. Group-IB will also be seeking to rapidly build its technical and commercial teams, culminating in the launch of a new office and Digital Crime Resistance Center in Chile by Q3 2024, which will be helmed by Mauricio Guijarro.
Mauricio Guijarro brings a wealth of expertise to Group-IB, with over 20 years of experience in developing anti-fraud and cybersecurity products within the LATAM and the Caribbean markets. His extensive network and regular engagement with key stakeholders in targeted verticals position him to play a pivotal role in the company’s regional expansion. Guijarro will focus on fostering close collaborations with customers to serve their cybersecurity needs, particularly in Threat Intelligence and Fraud Protection solutions. Mauricio also aims to establish a robust channel infrastructure by onboarding strategic partners and distributors while simultaneously expanding Group-IB’s customer portfolio across key countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. Additionally, Group-IB plans to extend its reach throughout the rest of the region, offering its comprehensive product stack under the Unified Risk Platform, along with tailored services to meet local market demands.
“By establishing a local presence in the LATAM and the Caribbean region, our goal is to solidify and advance our relationships with local stakeholders, elevating our offerings to new heights within the cybersecurity and anti-fraud landscape. This entails a dual strategy of onboarding new partners while nurturing our existing customer base. What sets us apart is our commitment to embracing the unique characteristics of each country, steering clear of a one-size-fits-all approach. Our focus is on providing tailored, customer-centric solutions that respect the cultural nuances of the region. Moreover, the growing demand for cybersecurity and anti-fraud solutions in LATAM and the Caribbean, coupled with the maturity of certain verticals, further underscores our commitment to this approach.”

Group-IB recently published its “Hi-Tech Crime Trends 2023/2024 – Latin America” report which provided an extensive analysis of the evolving cyber threat in LATAM and the Caribbean, shedding light on the region’s predominant cybersecurity challenges. In 2023, Group-IB’s research revealed a staggering 53% increase in compromised cards issued by LATAM banks, with Mexico leading the list with 447,784 affected cards. In the same year, ransomware attacks surged by 19%, predominantly targeting companies in the manufacturing and financial sectors. Brazil and Mexico remained prime targets for Ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) affiliates. Furthermore, information stealers emerged as a significant concern, affecting 374,458 infected devices in LATAM and the Caribbean, as evidenced by logs available on Underground Clouds of Logs (UCL), with an additional 850,984 hosts’ logs offered for sale on underground markets.
At the end of 2023, Group-IB’s Threat intelligence unit revealed the first iOS Trojan named “GoldPickaxe.iOS”, which targeted Apple devices by harvesting users’ biometric data. Further analysis revealed connections between the GoldFactory and Gigabug Trojan variants, suggesting that the cybercriminal groups may expand their operations to Latin America and beyond.
“We believe that our Threat Intelligence and Fraud Protection solutions will defend companies against the growing complexity and speed of cyber-attacks. By providing tailored solutions catered to our customer’s immediate and future cybersecurity needs, we are confident that we can safeguard their reputation, as well as their customers’ information as well.”
