Peer-Reviewing Third-Party Determinations

In Russia today, as well as around the world, there are organizations offering computer forensics. Unfortunately, not all of them employ the appropriate highly qualified professionals or the necessary equipment. Often, their forensic reports do not satisfy legal requirements, risking being rejected by law enforcement agencies and the courts. Therefore, we offer peer-reviewing services for third-party determinations in order to analyze a given report’s scientific validity and the comprehensiveness of the conducted forensics.

Group-IB’s specialists perform the following services related to peer-reviewing:

  • Identifying technical and procedural errors in the determinations made by other experts and specialists (including errors in ordering forensics, errors in formulating expert questions, etc.);
  • Assessing the scientific validity and legitimacy of the computer information forensics techniques used.

Analysis of the given findings is performed from the standpoint of applicable criminological requirements and techniques for forensic investigation of computer information, as well as requirements for the execution of the expert determinations. All detected errors and inaccuracies are documented in the form of an expert determination, which can be used as evidence in a criminal case.

Peer-Reviewing Third-Party Determinations

As a result of peer-reviewing, the client receives an expert determination, containing the following:

  • List of technical and procedural errors and inaccuracies in the given expert determination;
  • Substantiated assessment of the comprehensiveness of the conducted forensics;
  • Analysis of the scientific validity and legitimacy of the computer information forensics techniques used.

The expert determination is conducted in accordance with the requirements of applicable legislations, and can be used as evidence in a criminal case.
